It’s at that point that you realise another year has gone by and you have totally fogotten your anniversary again. If you have had this experience before then it’s time for you to look at making an improvement to your memory. By following a few easy training techniques it will be easy for you to make a dramatic improvement to your memory and never have to worry again about forgetting things.
When it comes to memory, there are a variety of categories. Some of these categories include remember lists and facts, remembering events and dates, and names and faces. There are various strategies that can help you with memory improvement in each of these different memory areas.
If you are a person that always is forgetting names, there are a variety of things you can do to help yourself remember. Many people use a common trick by associating some type of rhyme with the person’s name. When you are first introduced to someone new, it is a great idea to make sure that you immediately repeat their name a couple times while you are speaking to that person. This helps you get it into your short term memory before you forget it altogether.
To make the person’s name stay in your long-term memory, use a rhyme that helps you associate that person’s name with something that’s easy to remember. For example, “Tony” and “pony” rhyme, so you can associate Tony the person with the pony, the animal.
The other great thing to do is try to match your rhyme to a common feature about their appearance. By doing this it will help to recognize them in the future as well.
Another common technique for the improvement of your memory when it comes to lists is to make a word a saying/sentence or just remember the first letters of the list. By doing this it will help to jog your memory to exactly what was on the list. For example if you had to go to the shop and remember 5 items you could do it like follows.
Lollipops Bread Chocolate Apples Ketchup
Take a look at the list that you have, and then rearrange it to make word, such as follows.
B read L ollipops A pples C hocolate K etchup
Now from the first letters in this case it spells Black. Now all you have to do is remember Black and when you get to the supermarket it will help you to know there were 5 things and they started with B L A C K.
This is a relatively easy way to improve your memory, and that and the other techniques we’ve discussed will help give you a good memory in almost no time. All it takes is a little practice.
